Review: As a lifetime student (and ranked instructor) of numerous martial arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate-Do, Kenjutsu, Wakizashi-Jutsu, Tai Chi, Qigong, and Tanto-Jutsu) and various fitness programs (Circuit training, aerobic programs, Military special units, SEAL exercise systems) I am always searching for interesting and unique approaches to improve myself.

I purchased this 197 page soft cover volume (7 Minutes of Magic: Recharge your body each day with Qigong by Lee Holden) at a bargain price at Amazon. As someone who teaches a Tai Chi and Qigong exercise program to seniors, I was familiar with many of these exercises; nevertheless, I really enjoyed reading this book because it presents the topic in an easy to understand format. Unlike some fitness programs I have read about in other books, this one gets right to the point without excessive verbiage. I also like the fact that the author does not write a lot of mystical mumbo jumbo when it comes to doing Qigong and Tai Chi exercises.

This book is organized into three parts. Part one explains the 7 minutes to change your life program. He relates his own experience in the Eastern arts of Tai-Chi, Qigong and Yoga. The second part (The Flows) covers the morning and evening 7 minutes of magic exercises the author shows in the book. The final section (Living with more vitality) focuses on breathing exercises, food factors, and importance of drinking water, meditation, sleep and a bonus 7 minutes of magic routine.

If you are interested a simple and effective exercise program which includes mind, body and spirit you should check out this book. I personally found it to be an excellent basic volume emphasizing Qigong and other movements.

Review: I had to return the book because the exercises require getting down on the floor and I am elderly and no longer capable of getting down there (unless I fall down) and if I'm on the floor, I can't get up again. But looking through the book, it would have been perfect for me 20 years ago. I was sorry to have to let it go.

Title: A Great Way to Blend Mind, Body and Spirit

Review: Following exercises from a book isn't always easy at first, so I do recommend that you seek out some of his videos as a companion guide to the practice of Qi Gong. Many of these movements are captured on his dvd, but you can also find them on YouTube and on his website and they make it even easier to follow along with the book. I saw his dvd on PBS and was immediately drawn to his style and it changed the way I look at exercise. Once I started to learn the movements and the concepts behind the practice of Qi Gong, I started to approach my workouts as a meditation and not just a process of "banging out reps" and that has had a big impact on how I look at my fitness program. I bought the book to reinforce what I was learning from the videos and to keep around as a handy guide for reference and it does a great job of showing you pictures and explaining the movements, but there is even more to it. Lee also adds some advice on how to approach life and how to build healthy habits and it all works together to help you balance your mind, body and spirit. It is a great way to help you build a meditative fitness routine - I hope you find it as useful as I have.

Review: Two years ago, I was lucky enough to come across Qi Gong. This is an ancient Chinese practice for energy healing through movement. Traditionally, I love doing the flows and movement via DVD, so when I bought this book, I didn't know how I would feel about it. In the end, I found it to be refreshing and easy to follow. The actual flows and movements are not difficult to learn and Lee did an excellent job presenting this through pictures. Something I thought impossible! It does take some time and dedication to learn the flows and movements, but once you do, you can do them anywhere. So I no longer need to do this in the confines of my livingroom, I can go outside and enjoy nature. This is really how it is meant to be. I have watched documentaries on Qi Gong and in China, people are always doing Qi Gong in nature! This book is truly a gift and I thank Lee Holden for writing it. For those of you who haven't done any Qi Gong, It may be beneficial to check out Lee Holden's website and look around. Qi Gong is a gentle flowing type of movement which will benefit you in ways you could never imagine. Gone are the days in which the only type of exercise that counted were the ones that made you sweat and feel exhausted, here are the days in which exercises that promote healing and energy through gentle movements are accepted and applauded! I work as an Occupational Therapist at a local hospital in the acute area and I use Qi Gong with people everyday. Get this amazing book, learn the movements and pass it on! Review: I downloaded this on the Kindle and I wish I could get my money back. I thought I was getting a book about qigong but it was mostly yoga exercises. I have books on yoga. I wanted a book on qigong. The title should have told the truth, that it was mostly yoga with a bit of qigong thrown in and then I would have known that it was not what I was looking for.

Review: I call this one of the most influential books of my life because it has introduced me to a new way to a healthier life. After just a few weeks I have noticed a big change in how I feel overall and my balance and flexibility has improved. I will be 70 years old on my next birthday and have been taking Tai Chi classes for 5 months. The Qi Gong that I am learning from Lee Holden adds to the Tai Chi and it is something I can do on my own. I now own 4 of Lee Holden's DVDs and I hope to keep learning more. I recommend this to all ages but especially those who are feeling the stiffness and lack of flexibility because of age.
