Disney Dole Whip

Each time we visit the Disney Parks, there a few treats we get every time. My top three snacks are the Mickey pretzel, a Mickey Rice Krispie treat, and of course, the famous pineapple Dole Whip.

This frozen pineapple dessert is easily themost popular snack there. It's worth waiting in line on a hot day for that cool refreshing flavor.

Did you know that you can make this tasty treat at home? Disney released a Dole Whip recipe a few years ago. So, now you can make a homemade soft serve in minutes that tastes just like the Park treat.

  • Fun nostalgic appeal. Many people have fond memories of visiting the Parks and enjoying a pineapple whip with family and friends. Making this treat at home allows you to relive those magical moments.
  • Easy to make all year long. All you need are three simple ingredients that can be found at most grocery stores. This makes it an easy dessert to whip up any time you want it.
  • Refreshing and satisfying treat. The tangy pineapple flavor combined with the creamy texture of the ice cream makes it a delicious combo.

What is a Dole Whip?

This frozen dessert is made with pineapple juice and soft-serve ice cream. It was first introduced at Disneyland in the 1980s. The creamy, tangy flavor is refreshing and satisfying on hot summer days.

What it Tastes Like

The light and refreshing dessert tastes like soft serve and fruit sorbet combined. The sweet and slightly tart flavor is honestly so delicious. This soft serve ice cream has come in six different flavors over the years: pineapple, orange, raspberry, strawberry, mango, and lime. But the pineapple dole whip is the most popular!

Where to Find the Treat

At Disney World you can find it at the Aloha Isle stand in Adventureland. You can also find it at the Marketplace Snacks kiosk in Disney Springs and in a few locations in Hawaii. It can also be found in various locations in Disneyland.

This easy copycat Dole Whip recipe only requires three ingredients to achieve a very similar taste.

  • Vanilla Ice Cream - Use your favorite brand of ice cream or frozen yogurt.
  • Frozen Pineapple Chunks - Set it out a couple minutes ahead of time, so they can thaw slightly. You can also freeze fresh or canned pineapple chunks ahead of time for this recipe.
  • Pineapple Juice - We love keeping the small cans of pineapple juice on hand.

BruCrew Tip: Use the extra pineapple juice to make a pitcher of pineapple orange punch.

How to make Dole Whip

Pineapple Dole Whip Recipe - Inside BruCrew Life (3)

This easy Dole Whip recipe comes together in minutes. Add everything to a blender and blend until smooth and creamy!

  1. Place the ice cream, frozen pineapple chunks, and juice in a high power blender or food processor.
  2. Pulse until everything is mixed, and it is thick and creamy
  3. Spoon the frozen treat into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. This will give you that tell tale Dole Whip look.
  4. Swirl the soft serve into cups or glasses and enjoy.

Make it a Float

  • Add the pineapple whip to a large glass.
  • Pour pineapple juice on top just like a float.
  • Add a straw and a maraschino cherry and enjoy.

BRUCREW TIP: Want to make a boozy Dole Whip float? Add a shot of rum to it. It will taste just like the one you can find at the Marketplace Snacks kiosk in Disney Springs.

Storage Recommendations

If you have leftovers, you can store it in an airtight container in the freezer for up to one week. Let it thaw for a few minutes before serving.

Tips and Tricks

  • Disney's version is dairy free. You can use a dairy free ice cream or coconut or almond milk instead of the vanilla ice cream.
  • Using a high powered blender will give you the best results. Frozen Dole pineapple can be hard to pulse. If you have a regular blender, let the frozen fruit thaw out slightly.
  • Pulse the mixture in small bursts. Use a spatula to push the pineapple chunks to the bottom of the blender, then pulse again. Repeat until the mixture is thick and creamy.
  • Add a splash of vanilla extract to give it a little more flavor. This is optional, but it does make it taste so good.
  • The pineapple soft serve is ready to eat right away. But if you want to serve it in a swirl, freeze the mixture in a container for 30-60 minutes.
  • Want that iconic swirl? Spoon the frozen pineapple whip into a disposable piping bag fitted with icing tip 1M and swirl the mixture into cups.
  • Serve it with pineapple juice to make a fruity float. For a fun adult beverage, add a shot of coconut rum.

FAQs

Can I use fresh pineapple instead of frozen?

Frozen pineapple is recommended in the recipe because it creates a thicker and creamier texture. However, if you prefer to use fresh pineapple, cut it into small pieces and freeze before blending.

Can you use other frozen fruit?

Pineapple is the traditional fruit used in a Dole Whip. But you can experiment with other fruits such as mango, strawberry, or peach. However, keep in mind that the flavor and texture may differ from the original.

Can I make a dairy-free version of this Dole Whip?

Yes, you can make a dairy-free version by using a non-dairy vanilla ice cream or substituting the ice cream with coconut cream or coconut milk.

Pineapple Dole Whip

Yield: 4 servings

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Relive the Disney magic by making this Pineapple Dole Whip at home. With just three ingredients and a blender you can enjoy this Dole Whip recipe in minutes! This sweet and creamy frozen pineapple dessert is sure to bring a sparkle to your day.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup vanilla ice cream
  • 2 cups frozen pineapple chunks
  • 4 ounces pineapple juice
  • splash of vanilla extract, optional

Instructions

  1. Place all the ingredients in a blender.
  2. Pulse until thick and creamy. Use a spatula to move the mixture down, so it can all be mixed in properly. The mixture will be soft like soft serve, so I recommend freezing it for 30-60 minutes to make it a little firmer for swirling.
  3. Spoon the semi-frozen mixture into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip and swirl the soft serve Dole Whip into cups or glasses. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Disney's version is dairy free. You can use a dairy free ice cream or a little bit of coconut or almond milk in place of the vanilla ice cream.
  • Adjust the thickness. You can add more or less pineapple chunks or juice to adjust the thickness of the whip.

It should be very soft, like soft serve when you blend it. To get it firmer, you need to freeze it for about 1 hour, which I had in the instructions and tips. "The pineapple soft serve is ready to eat right away. But if you want to serve it in a swirl, freeze the mixture in a container for 30-60 minutes."
