"I'm writing to thank you for our kit. We used it last week as part of our unit about trees. The cards were my kindergarteners' favorite part. They were surprised to learn that so many things we use come from trees. Now, they have been pointing out all of the items around the building that are from some part of a tree! They've also enjoyed trying to identify tree species outside at recess. It was eye-opening for them to realize that sustainable forestry practices can ensure our needs, and our planet's needs, are met."TEACHERS: Request your free Truth About Trees Kit today https://bit.ly/RequestAKit!INDUSTRY/COMPANIES: Sponsor a Kit or make a donation today https://bit.ly/3G2Vc78!Helping the next generation become #exTREEmelysmart creates a healthier future for them, our industry, and the planet. ❤️🌎#truthaboutrees #education #teachers #hardwoods #softwoods

Where will the next hidden plant species come from? Will it come from deep in a forest, like the remarkable 𝑊𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑚𝑖𝑎 𝑛𝑜𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑠 (Wollemi pine), discovered less than 20 years ago in Australia, or from somewhere even more remote? 🏞️ Perhaps it'll be hidden in a crevice on the side of a cliff? 🏔️ Maybe it'll be at the top of an alpine region, only accessible by helicopter? 🏜️ It might even be tucked away in a dry and dusty corner of Victoria. Wherever it is, there is one thing for certain - it won't just fall into our laps. Conservation work takes dedication, experience, and funding. If you have the capacity to, please consider donating to Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. The tax-deductible donation you make will empower our scientists and horticulturists in their research and conservation efforts. Our most at-risk plants cannot survive without care and help from you. You are the only part of the ecosystem with the power to save plants from extinction. Donate now at: https://bit.ly/3Mzs6zq

For thousands of years, indigenous and forest peoples have lived in harmony with nature, acting in reciprocity and partnership with the elements, the seasons, and the abundant gifts of the forest. 'Ayni' captures the esence of this interconnectedness and reciprocity, recognizing that individuals and communities are woven into a net of interdependence that entails mutual responsibility for the wellbeing of each other. This is the fifth year of our 'Ayni, Regenererative Food Forest in the Amazon' initiative. Working hand in hand with local and indigenous communities, we seek for recovering traditional Amazonian agroforestry practices to give diversity back to families' plots. Would you like to be part of this reciprocity initiative? More to come in the next few days!#permaculture #reciprocity #agroforestry #indigenousknowledge #amazon #peruvianamazon #amazonrainforest #nonprofit

    Secretary/Treasurer, Trees That Feed Foundation

Some may think tree planting is a drop-a-seed-and-go scenario. Not so for Trees That Feed Foundation! We follow our babies through fruiting and beyond. TTFF uses various tactics to keep our trees alive. First off, we partner with nurseries who grow and harden plantlets. They have good leaf and root development and the best shot at survival. Many fruits – like breadfruit – don’t even have seeds and are challenging to propagate. Read about propagation techniques here. Next, we are careful to whom we distribute trees. Our request form includes questions about the prospective planter’s water source, elevation, and whether he or she lives on the property. We often reach out and ask for plans of action, such as how to keep the goats away. The final step is ongoing. When the trees are planted, we require farmers and other growers to track them using Greenstand’s Treetracker app. That allows us to view the trees online from satellite photos. And guess what? You can too! You, our supporters, can see exactly where your donations go by visiting map.treetracker.org.Click on “Let’s Find a Tree,” then our logo, and click the numbers to zoom in. Support our efforts at https://lnkd.in/gxzt_HNcThanks!

Include a Charity Week, aims to highlight the impact you can make for a cause close to your heart, through leaving a gift in your Will.Having being an executer of a Will and working in the charity and not-for-profit sector for over 15 years, this is a really important decision for individuals to make and an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy. Therefore, my recommendation when making this decision is...✅ Choose a cause that resonates with you✅ Do some due diligence - check they are registered on the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) website or registered in their region- make sure they are in the press for the right reasons- are they financially responsible ie EOFY report available- are they achieving their impact/outcomes?- do they offer tax deductibility (it may not matter to you)?✅ Know your gifting options - a residual bequest: the remainder of your estate once specific gifts have been distributed- a percentage bequest: part of the residue of your estate, or part of the entire estate- a pecuniary gift: a specific monetary amount- an asset: this could include housing, shares, bonds or other articles of value- a living bequest: a gift made during your lifetime, to target an existing project✅ Establish a relationship now - see how the charity communicates - make sure you are aligned- consider a small donation now to test the relationship- try volunteering first✅ Tell your family - its important they have a clear understanding of your wishes to avoid any contesting later✅ Write it into your Will - make it legally binding and leave clear instructions✅ Inform your chosen charity - the more information they have, the better they can plan and deliver your wishes.By doing some research and opening conversations now, you can maximise your impact and truely, rest in peace. #IncludeACharityWeek

The submission window for the Texas A&M Forest Service Community Forestry Grant Program is now open and will close February 16, 2024. The Community Forestry Grant Program is offering more than $16 million in competitive grant opportunities for community, civic and neighborhood groups to promote the management and enhancement of urban and community forest ecosystems and provide positive impacts throughout the state of Texas. Public and non-profit entities eligible for these grants include State and local government agencies, public education institutions, NGOs or non-profits, tribal entities and public utility districts. Another goal outlined in the foundation of the grant program is to increase tree coverage to 30% on Texas school campuses through schoolyard forests grants. Access to green spaces and trees are essential in human development. They serve as a strong physical and mental health aid while also providing a practical introduction to the important role of forests and trees play within their local ecosystems. 👉 Learn more about the grant, application requirements and important dates here: https://ow.ly/YiTR50Qhvyf

First Day of Summer and Pollinators Week!Local Impact Alliance celebrates this week by highlighting one of the Funds at Canton Community Foundation -"Creating Habitats for Pollinators Fund"The charitable purpose of this fund is to increase the amount of dedicated habitat for pollinating insects by planting native wildflowers in public and private spaces. We hope to engage communities, organizations, and individuals that might not otherwise support native landscaping.A pollinator is any animal that visits flowering plants and moves pollen from flower to flower, which helps plants reproduce, making fruits and seeds. In North America, pollinators include bees, butterflies, moths, flower flies, beetles, wasps, hummingbirds. Bees are the most efficient pollinators because they also collect pollen as a protein source for their offspring, so they move the pollen around as they visit flowering plants. There are approximately 20,000 bee species in the world, 3,600 in the United States.Worldwide, approximately 1,000 plants grown for food, beverages, fibers, spices, and medicines need to be pollinated by animals. These include blueberries, chocolate, coffee, melons, peaches, pumpkins, vanilla, and almonds (Pollinator Partnership). In Wisconsin, crops such as apple, cranberry, cherry, green beans, cucumbers and other fruits and vegetables depend on pollinators.Pollinators around the world are facing population declines for many reasons. You can get involved in a lot of ways! By creating pollinator friendly habitats, reducing or eliminating environmental contamination from pesticides, and spreading the word about pollinators with your communities, we can all contribute to pollinator conservation. The Habitat for Pollinator Fund Holder and Vice Chair of Local Impact Alliance Board Dave Hammond is active in Environmental Stewardship and creating habitats for Pollinators in Plymouth & Canton. There are two Pollinator Gardens in Canton - Heritage Park and Ridge Road Park.https://lnkd.in/gK7w4C7g
