theres the one screwfix do , about 40 quid if i remember right

I was gifted a gascoseaker more than a year ago and have used it half a dozen times! Not many gas leaks about these days it seems

Which gasco have you got. I really want a mk2 but they are too expensive

I am amazed at the prices people are asking for the old hand pumped Mk1 model on Ebay. Not worth it IMHO.

Does anyone know how much the annual service and recal costs on a MK2 Surveyor..?

Incidentally,if you buy one second hand just be careful it isnt ex ESP knock off from a van robbery or similar.

It's the battery operated one Simon, think it's the Mk2. Truth is the guy who had it has the aspirated one too and found it too expensive to get them both calibrated every year! He didn't even know if it worked or not TBH! Well it does! Whether it's calibrated correctly or not I don't give a :50: it sniffs and lets me know where to spray the LDF

mark 1 gascoseeker. ours is over 20 years old, never been calibrated and will pinpoint a 1mb drop with ease. Actually never failed to pick up a leak on it apart from ones burried in concrete floors.

My dad used to work for british gas for many years and spoke to some of his mates and a manager there recently and they all prefer the mk1s as the mk2s need calibrating every 6 months apparently as they get problems going out of calibration.

If you're lucky you can pick up one re-furbished and calibrated for £250 but they're often around £500.

Wouldn't even consider a mark 2 for £1500 quid.

What do you have to sniff out that. Do you have a pin point nozzle?

I just use the hose that came with it, you squeeze the air release bulb when you want it to sniff. Can be a little awkward as you need 2 hands on it but it's still probs the best out there. Can pinpoint which side of a small gas fire fitting is leaking.

I was just wondering if you had a small lance type tube that the gas board use

I haven't had as much success as you. But I'll try some more

Yes true enough...i guess calibration isnt important if you just want to use it to find leaks. The calibration is an issue for ESPs as they are used to take accurate GIA measurements and plot readings against time in emergency situations so its more of a legal issue hence the need for regular (every 28 days minimum) calibration check. They are also used for road surveying as are the even more responsive Hydrogen fuelled Flame Ionisation detectors which can sniff a gnats fart even if he is down a mine shaft.
