Evolution Physical Therapy First Clinic in Southern California to Introduce NASA-Designed Anti-Gravity Treadmill for Public Use (2024)

Evolution Physical Therapy, one of Los Angeles’ most innovative, technologically-advanced providers of outpatient physical therapy and rehabilitation services, is the first and only physical therapy facility in Southern California to offer Alter-G’s unique G-Trainer anti-gravity treadmill for athletic training and medical treatment programs.

Rehabilitation and other medical facilities using the G-Trainer have noted faster recovery times and lower overall costs for patients. Evolution PT will also offer the G-Trainer to athletes and people interested in using the treadmill for performance training.

Alter-G’s technology, developed by NASA and tested by Nike, is different from other fitness and therapeutic equipment because it defies gravity by applying a lifting force to the body that reduces weight on the lower extremities by anywhere from 1% to 80% at the touch of a button. Unlike other unweighting methods, the G-Trainer enables athletes to train with their natural gait and rhythm, and significantly shortens the time required for patients to recover from injury or surgery.

“We are excited to provide this new technology in our center,” said Darwin Fogt, MPT, President of Evolution Physical Therapy. “Our clinical team and referring physicians can use the G-Trainer with an injured weekend warrior wanting to get back to full capacity, or with a high-level athlete working on increasing performance levels.”

Numerous Olympians who trained for the 2008 games in Beijing proved the G- Trainer’s effectiveness this summer, including several runners recovering from injuries. In addition, 15 professional sports teams, 12 universities, and numerous performance enhancement facilities also use the equipment.

Alter-G’s equipment allows a person to train longer, minimize stress on the joints, and exercise at a higher level of intensity. This type of therapy is also beneficial to medical patients suffering from arthritis, lower extremity fractures, knee surgeries, joint problems, low back pain and tightness, and many other conditions.

“The G-Trainer is being adopted nationally by leading hospitals and rehabilitation clinics and we are pleased to see Evolution Physical Therapy as one of those pioneers,” said Lars Barfod, CEO of Alter-G. “Our unique approach to unweighted physical therapy preserves natural body movement, prevents falls and benefits a broad range of medical conditions.” The FDA approved the G- Trainer for medical use in January 2008.

The new equipment allows Evolution Physical Therapy clinicians to prescribe accurate partial weight-bearing exercise to more of their patients who are recovering from surgery, injury or disease of the lower body.

The public is invited to experience the G-Trainer by scheduling a personal demonstration at the Los Angeles center. Patients are encouraged to ask their physicians if the G-Trainer is an appropriate treatment option.

About Evolution Physical Therapy

Evolution Physical Therapy provides exceptional treatment for patients with a wide range of orthopedic diagnoses. Its clinical approach differs from other facilities because of its progressive approach and techniques. In addition to the G-Trainer, the clinic is the first to utilize a mini football field, complete with realistic synthetic grass for balance training and advanced rehabilitation work.

The center offers a continuum of care after rehabilitation complete with physical therapy, personal training, Pilates, yoga, acupuncture, and massage offered to further patients’ levels of health and fitness long after their injuries are healed.

The clinic is easily accessible, open extended hours 6 days per week, and the modern, and the spacious Penthouse space offers gorgeous views of the Westchester bluffs and Playa Vista community. Parking is free.

Rehabilitation on the treadmill is covered by most insurance plans, and Evolution PT is a preferred provider for most PPO plans.
