The Associate, Solar and Power Markets (Battery) will be responsible for supporting the Operations and Maintenance of over 1GW of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage assets located in California and ensuring corporate and ownership objectives are met. The Associate, Solar and Power Markets (Battery) is accountable for protecting, maintaining, and enhancing the value of assigned assets to maximize the owners’ financial return and for the benefit of the communities in which those assets are located. Achieve results through involvement of internal and third-party operations teams as well as collaboration with development, construction management, accounting, risk management, investments, and portfolio oversight departments to realize stated goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Primary responsibility is to coordinate the various operational and transaction activities of the assigned assets, including the day-to-day activities of the operations within asset management. This shall include but not be limited to:
    • Financial Obligations- Support of financial functions including but not limited to budgeting, including creation and execution of operating budgets for operational assets; re-forecasting; and detailed variance reporting. Expense monitoring and cost control implementation, revenue enhancement and overall asset profitability to meet or exceed budgeted Net Operating Income.
    • Revenues - Manage and ensure the timely invoicing to counterparties and collection of all invoiced charges; oversee A/P functions and ensure that all expenses are paid on-time; assist in the negotiation of Power Purchase Agreements and Confirms.
    • Bidding Strategies - Evaluate and modify CAISO day-ahead, real-time, and ancillary services market bidding strategies through daily analysis of market movements and pricing to maximize merchant revenues and mitigate any associated risk. Provide short- and long-term market insights based on market fundamentals and trends, renewable energy penetration, storage/demand response growth.
    • Risk Assessment - Ensure compliance with requirements for various project agreements including Power Purchase Agreements, Financial Partnership Agreements, Operating and Maintenance Agreements, and REC Agreements. Understand the business development and market evolution and recommend appropriate risk approach to key stakeholders for approval. Calculate and execute trades to ensure compliance with risk policy.
    • Communication - Demonstrate excellent communication skills in both verbal and written interactions with all internal and external parties. Conduct necessary reporting of operational activities with relevant counterparties, partners, contractors, consultants, service providers, suppliers, and governmental agencies.
    • Contract Administration- Partner with third-party contractors, consultants, and service providers, develop scope of work documents for contracted services, competitively bid services. Monitor contractor performance and ensure contract compliance.
    • Proactive Problem Solving - Exhibit a creative and innovative approach to solving problems and resolving issues. Proactively seek opportunities to improve operational and financial performance of the asset.
    • Site Visits - Conduct regular site visits and site inspections at under construction and operational project sites located in the Central Valley, California.
    • Contract Negotiation - Participate in bi-lateral contract negotiations for the sale of energy, renewable credits, capacity, and other products to various off-takers. Manage and track obligations in existing off-take contracts. Mange contract negotiations and contract compliance with contractors, operators, consultants, service providers, and other vendors.
    • Financial Deliverables - Support the completion of deliverables in project tax equity and financing documents including certificates, reports, loan and interest payments, budgets, and calculations. Work with the investment, accounting, and legal teams in preparing and submitting all required deliverables.
    • Ability to develop and manage 12X24 production schedule.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: (including certification, licenses, etc.)

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 2+ years’ experience in asset and/or operations management in solar, solar + BESS, renewable energy environment
    • Experience managing California utility-scale solar and battery energy storage assets and MBA preferred.
    • Prior experience operating merchant energy projects preferred.
    • Prior experience / knowledge with Day Ahead scheduling required.
    • Prior experience in CAISO and WECC region preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Communication Skill Requirements:
    • High level of communication, organizational, and management skills.
    • Ability to develop, present and gain approval for annual Business Plan.
    • Ability to write effective and concise communications to counterparties, contractors, service providers, suppliers, and government agencies.
    • Ability to comprehend, analyze and interpret contracts and other legal documents and to communicate effectively with attorneys.
    • Ability to presents ideas in a clear, concise, understandable, and organized manner to reach the goals/objectives of the organization.
    • Mathematical Skill Requirements:
    • Ability to grasp basic math skills.
    • Understand and apply advanced industry-specific computations and analyses.
    • Understand and apply performance-related and asset related financial analyses.
    • Understanding of financial statements.
    • Ability to create and utilize intermediate level excel formulas.
    • Understanding of solar related calculations (weather adjusted calculations, availability calculations, performance ratios, specific yield, etc.)
    • Technical Skill Requirements:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Proficiency in Yardi, Nexus and/or other ERP software systems.
    • Proficiency in industry related software packages as required.

Actual base salary considers several factors including but not limited to geography, job-related knowledge, experience, and budget. The anticipated base salary range for the position in Los Angeles is $80,000 - $110,000.
