Good. That unplanned donation may have fed some hungry folks.

sounds like Mr. Guider is going to get a rather large paycheck in the near future from Big Lots.

He wasn’t following a ‘shoplifter’.
He was pursuing a person who had assaulted his assistant manager to identify him for the police.
Hopefully he successfully sues Big Lots for this unlawful termination and all the current shoppers boycott the business.

In most states, this would not be a wrongful termination.
If this had happened at a Popeye's, the entire crew would have come out in the defense of the assistant manager.

I hope so, but that's yet to be seen.
The news report certainly alerted low-lifes to the fact that they can steal from Big Lots with impunity. Enjoy that, Big Lots, you earned it.

I kind of understand the logic that they don't want the liability if a shoplifter attacks or kills the employee, so they just let them walk.
But this, and other incidents, go way beyond that. There is more to this empowering of criminals.

If I ever get really down on my luck I would become a Big Lots furniture assembler. Those guys spend 80 percent of the day chilling on already assembled furniture and getting paid for it.

These companies don’t deserve to exist. I wish there was a definitive list of the companies with these policies so that I would know who to avoid. But I’m afraid it may be every retailer out there. How did we get to this point?

2 ways to handle this:
The Ink Way: manager file a unlawful termination suit and employee who was assaulted concurrently file an unsafe workplace civil suit.
The Blood Way: hire the perp to go to exec's house who fired him to assault him.
RECOMMENDATION: both

Sucks , but if the manager would’ve ended up being injured by the suspect , that manager would immediately turn around and sued his employer. Hence , companies say don’t chase after a shoplifter because the dollars of lost revenue aren’t anywhere close to the dollars of a settlement.

What would the paycheck be for? The headline here is "employee fired for violating company code of conduct."
I agree these policies are the stupidest thing on the planet - I'd have shoplifters executed on the spot - but the reality is these companies have chosen these policies and it's their right to have them all the way until they go out of business.

Except he was literally helping remove an already active threat.

In all seriousness, it unfortunately is not a given that the manager will have a lawsuit against the corporation. Most states have almost complete "employment at will", meaning that you can be terminated either for a really stupid reason (like this case) or even for absolutely no reason at all.
But the type of state where a manager will be fired for following a violent shoplifter (presumably a "blue" state) would be one of the states that's more likely to have more protections against termination.

As I’ve stated before, black people steal/loot to benefit them. White people protest things that have nothing to do with them. Whose the true dumbass???? Think about it.

You can grab all the power tools you want and walk out of a Home Depot.

I've never been to a Big Lots before, but isn't pretty much all of what they sell expensive stuff like couches, TVs, etc?
I think they'd have to catch pretty much every shoplifter. They aren't something like Piggly Wiggly where it won't be that big of a deal if a customer steals an occasional pie.

No, it's cheap as sh*te. Yea, they have some furniture, but it's also a bunch of crap like you would have at walmart or homegoods. Household items, knick knacks, etc. Lots of potential things to steal.
