25 Indian Baby Food Recipes for 6 to 12 Months - Being Happy Mom (2024)

Once your baby completed the six months milestone, you are excited to introduce a variety of foods to your little one.

According to Department of Health Recommendation, your baby should have the exclusive breastmilk or formula-based milk until six months. Your baby will get all the nutrition from mother milk and formula milk. Also, you should not start the solid before 4 months. Your baby’s gut is still developing and is not able to deal with foods other than breastmilk or formula milk. It may cause the infection or other serious problem.

By the six months, your baby will show the signs that he is ready to wean

  • He has stable neck
  • He is able to sit with/ without support
  • He has full control over his head and neck.
  • Your baby is interested in the food that you are having and try to take the food from your plate.
  • He is feeling hungry even after having milk.
  • He is coordinating his hands, eyes, and mouth well. They can open and close the mouth when you move the spoon around, can grab the teether and put it into his mouth.
  • Baby can swallow his food.

In the first month of solid foods, always start with easy to digest and non-allergic foods like fruit and vegetable purees, stewed apple, cereals.

Don’t introduce multiple foods in one go. Start with one ingredient/food at a time. By the end of six months, you can start more foods options like khichdi, porridge, a variety of cereals, idli, dosa, soups.

Please avoid to include these foods inbaby diet before 1 year of age.
